When it fails to do this for virtually your entire library - detecting beats that don't exist, consistently skipping beats in a chugging song that has an unchanging beat - and the mechanics of the game don't just reward your attentiveness to the beat but actively punishes you for not keeping with the game's seemingly arbitrary measure of where the beat of your song actually is, then it makes the game......basically unplayable.. After playing this, here's what I thought: Audiosurf is truly a masterpiece.. Turba sounds like a decent puzzle game that uses your own music library to make the stages unique. HOWEVER, the execution is very poor, which causes a lot of frustration as attempts to get in sync with the song you're playing often ends with something changing on the playfield & resulting in a bad move (causing additional frustration).This is one game that you'll DEFINITELY want to try the demo before you seriously consider spending ANY FUNDS on this title as it may save you from the headaches & regrets that reviews like this are warning you against.. A rhythm-puzzle game? Turba sounded really neat when I first saw it. I was itching to try it out. However, I was sadly disappointed.The #1 thing that destroys this game is its abysmal beat detection. Because the rhythm of the song determines how fast the blocks spawn/move and allows you to get "beat bonuses" for clearing blocks to the beat of the song, it's a key component of the game. Unfortunately, the game often skips beats and detects beats when there are none, completely disrupting the flow of play.A few of the other game mechanics seem a bit off as well. "Beat blocks" are supposed to turn all surrounding blocks black after they count down and explode, but there has been at least one instance of a block being left out of an explosion. As far as I can tell, there is very little discernable difference from the three difficulty levels, and it's possible to play songs that are impossible to lose on, even on the hardest difficulty.If Turba offered custom BPM and beat offset settings per song (features other software is quite easily able to do), this game would probably be redeemable.
